Canser?

  • Abnormal cells  reproduce / multiply excessively and finally cause death. 

Introduction

  • There are several types of canser, each with its own symptoms and different cure. 

  • The frequency of canser amongst the elderly is 10 times than in younger people. 

  • Early detection through screening is important  for effective treatment.

Why are older people more prone to canser?

  • As a result of physiological changes in ageing process - deficient  immunity system function in detecting abnormal cells  (immune surveillance of abnormal cancerous cells) 

  • Exposure to risk factors  in the environment.

What should you do?

  • Go for screening frequently, at least once every year (in normal cases) 

  • Breast examination

  • Pap smear   examination

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Blood in feaces, phlegm, urine and private organs.

  • Unreasonable loss of weight (more than 5%).

  • Hoarse (more than  2 weeks).

  • Changes in the breasts:

    • Size

    • Colour

    • Growth

  • Slow healing sores around the lips, tongue and face
