PENSION SCHEME :: DEATH OF AN OFFICER IN SERVICE

Dependants of a deceased officer may be considered for Derivative Gratuity and Derivative Pension.  The persons eligible for these benefits are:

Derivative Pension
Widow/Widower/Child
Widow/Widower means living wife or husband to an dead officer whose marriage is recognized in Malaysia as one that is valid under any written law, religion, tradition or practice. 
Child means a child under twenty-one years of age and unmarried, including natural child, dependant stepchild, illegitimate child,  adopted child and disabled child. 
No age limit is required for a child who is retarded , or mentally or physically and permanently incapacitated and incapable of supporting himself.  

Derivative Pension
(i) Widow/Widower/Child;
(ii) Mother of the deceased and if the mother id dead, to the father under his support. 
(iii) If no one is eligible, then only Derivative Gratuity will be paid to a representative rightful by law.
(iv) When a single officer dies, only Derivative Pension will be paid to his mother/father or  a representative rightful by law.


If an officer dies, the heir should inform the Head of Department immediately. The cooperation of the heir would be required to submit the following documents to the Department of the deceased:

  • 3 photos of widow /widower (passport size);

  • 1copy of the Death Certificate of the deceased;

  • 1 copy of Marriage Certificate/Divorce Certificate/Reconciliation Certificate whichever the case;

  • 1 copy of identification card of widow /widower;

  • 1 copy of birth certificates of children below 18 years of age and identification card for children between the ages of 18 - 21 years. 

  • 1 copy of adoption and confirmation of adopted child (if relevant);

  • 1 copy of identification card of the mother or father of the deceased, whichever relevant;
